Hunting Hall

Our first trip to Northumberland - we’ve had a great time. The cottage is delightful. You have been so warm and welcoming. The work you are putting in to attract wildlife to the farm is impressive. Even the weather was perfect – clear blue skies. Our thanks to you, Karen and Tom.

Thank you so much, Karen and Tom, for such lovely and cosy winter accommodation! Northumberland is magnificent and we hope to come back! Delicious apple cake too!

Where else could we would we be for Nick’s birthday?! And how many birthday have we now had here? An amazing warm and dry week… beautiful Cheswick Beach walk… best of all just being around the farm especially with the arrival of a new herd of cows! Also, lots of deer and wildlife, because that’s what Hunting Hall looks after. Back again in spring 💗

Visited for a 2nd time after 10 years (!) Lovely warm and cosy cottage. Really enjoyed the quietness of the area and farm. Also the amazing array of wildlife – from moths to birds to seals. The farm is a real haven for wildlife – we love watching the birds on the feeder. Thank you Karen and Tom for creating a place where nature is encouraged and valued. Looking forward to returning 😊

We very much missed our visit in 2020 & 2021 due to covid, so lovely to be back. As beautiful as ever with great hosts. Visited the estuary trip at Berwick, the new swimming pool which the kids loved, and the Andy Howey Birds of Prey Centre, which was great. The Barn at Beal was great for breakfast and loved the Lowick fish and chip van on Wednesday. The dig was great and as always, loved the farm. Thank you x

Thank you for allowing us to stay at Hunting Hall Farm. What you have done and continue to do here is inspirational; if every visitor takes one thing from here and puts it into practice, there is hope.

This was my first vacation in three years and what a wonderful vacation it was. The cottage and farm steading are beautiful. The weather cooperated and there was lots to do in the area. Would recommend Hunting Hall very highly.

On Easter Sunday Freddie the donkey brought us Easter treats – really special. Lovely to be surrounded by so many animals, walks, castles, and that night sky – breathtaking! Railway at Heatherslaw and Bamburgh Castle were favourites. Lindisfarne great first thing but got far too busy. Winston and peacocks regular visitors but it was the heaps of teenage pigs that got most photos. THANK YOU!!

This is a lovely cottage in a picturesque location. We all loved the amazing farm trail which we went on 4 times. We saw deer, hare, pheasants, grey partridges and lots more! Newt Cottage was so well equipped with everything you could need. Thank you so much, Karen and Tom, for letting us stay in such a wonderful cottage.

Thank you for another relaxing week in your beautiful cottage! We really enjoyed breakfast at the Barn at Beal, and Alnwick Gardens were stunning. We made some stone statues on the beach at Holy Island castle, and the beaches were beautiful. The two rescue donkeys were very friendly and will come over for a head rub, and Mist and Queen [the farm dogs] and the cat were lovely.

The most comfortable, welcoming and well equipped cottage we have ever stayed in. The Northumberland coast has been a delight! Cheswick!! Thank you so much, Karen and Tom.

Our first stay. Cottage facilities, welcome goodies and hospitality excellent in every respect. Walked miles of coast to east, and moor to west, plus the brilliant farm trail. Karen and Tom are an inspiration – they will leave this world a better place!

We really appreciated this very eco-friendly cottage …Thank you so much for a lovely welcome and for a wonderful selection of goodies – the sausages were excellent 😊 We felt as if you had done your upmost to make the cottage as ‘covid-safe’ as possible and we really appreciated that. It meant we could just arrive and relax. It’s so lovely to read in this book of so many children having been given a taste of farm life and the patience and kindness of Tom in allowing them to help feed the animals etc… What you have achieved on the farm here for wildlife is wonderful and inspirational. Loved the farm walk the thousands of wild geese! Thank you for everything.

A wonderful change of scenery as Lockdown eases. Just what the doctor ordered! The mummy peacocks spent a lot of time with their delightful peachicks, with me in the garden – a real treat. Thank you for all your hard work and the splendid food goodies. Much appreciated.

We were the first visitors back after Lockdown and we couldn’t have returned to a more special place. We’ve been coming here for years and love this beautiful farm and cottages, and especially Karen and Tom and their hospitality and friendship. A wonderful restful 6 days and we were able to help in the Lowick Community Orchard too. We will be back very soon xx

We have had a wonderful week in this peaceful and beautiful place, We really appreciated the care you’ve taken to heart in providing this very special hospitality. We’ve had such a wonderful week in this cosy cottage! We have visited Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh, Edinburgh, Eyemouth and had a lovely mean at The Black Bull in Lowick (we walked there). But by far, our favourite parts of the holiday have been spent here on the farm – pond dipping, walking the farm trail and Tom giving up his time to allow the children to help out feeding the animals and sharing his knowledge with them. Thanks to Karen for a walk welcome, her advice on exploring the local area and especially Easter gifts delivered by Donkey! Thanks to you both for unforgettable memories xx.

Our first visit to this area and we could not have found a nicer cottage. Karen and Tom are friendly hosts and the welcome pack was simply amazing. Without any doubt, this is the most well equipped holiday cottage that we have ever used. If you have the time, do walk around the farm and across to the Black Bull in Lowick (about 45 minutes) – you won’t be disappointed. Thank you, Karen and Tom, for your great hospitality! 5*

We have had such a lovely week! - Thank you Tom and Karen. Your cottage is beautiful and felt like home from home. The kids (and us) have enjoyed just watching the animals and learning new things. The farm has allowed us to slow down and just be! There has been no pressure to get out and do or see as the farm and cottage has provided an oasis of calm and peace. We still managed to get out and do a few castles and lovely beach walks. We went horse riding at Kimmerston today in the sun whish was amazing [ ] We did the obligatory fish and chips at Seahouses and ate dinner at Black Bull Inn (easy cycle or walk). Karen and Tom, thank you! Love what you have done here and we certainly enjoyed the time thinking more about us in our environment in Glasgow. We’ve had really important and interesting ongoing conversations with the kinds about sustainability, recycling and going against the grain. We would love to come back! X

Fabulous week, been to lots of beautiful places. Karen and Tom made us feel at home; the afternoon tea and fresh flowers were lovely. Cottage is beautiful. Hope to come back but will definitely recommend to friends and family.

Unlike many of your other visitors, we hadn’t been here before but absolutely know why people come back! The cottage is perfect, so well equipped and beautifully presented. We did a lot of cooking and everything we needed was here. We love the area, plenty of walking despite some rain, short days and nearly getting blown off Yeavering Bell! The Farm Trail is also lovely – wish we had small children again.

Our first visit to Newt Cottage and what a lovely time we’ve had! My favourite part has been waking up every morning and seeing the beauriful peacocks and peahens in the garden. I also enjoyed seeing the newborn lambs and we even had a deer visit our garden once! The doggies on the farm were very cute too! Thank you for the lovely cake and sausages as well 😊

Our second visit to Newt Cottage and a warm welcome from Tom and Karen. Some fine and sunny days and lots of newborn lambs! Will be back again in September.

What a wonderful time of year to be here in this lovely place. There has been a new treat every day – lambs, piglets, peacocks in full feather, deer, hares, rabbits, the nights getting lighter and the days getting warmer (well – a bit – and the open fire helps when it snows!!). The new shepherd’s hut looks as though it will be amazing. We very much appreciate how hard you have worked to make this place so lovely, welcoming, spotlessly clean and how you still manage to do all the day to day farming. Thank you.

6th time we have stayed here and we will be back; our home from home! Thank you, Karen and Tom, for your thoughtfulness and making our time here so wonderful. It is the only place we can say that continually ticks all the boxes for us. Our retreat in your beautiful part of the world.

Third time here THIS YEAR! We loved it. Thirty minute walk across the farm to the Black Bull, trip to Edinburgh for the Christmas market and a walk from Wooler up Humbleton Hill, oh, and the beach at Beadnell and a pint at the Ship. All great as ever.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday in your lovely cottage. We really enjoyed your hospitality and meeting the dogs and learning about the farm animals. A walk around the farm trail is highly recommended – especially if you get to see deer and hares as we did.

The warm welcome and great suggestions meant we enjoyed every bit of the week. Terrific local foods in the welcome basket kept us going, but we also enjoyed food at the Black Bull Lowick and Mielle Patisserie in Berwick. Spinning was great fun – history and good weather helped too.

I've been trying to pay attention to what is so special about this place this week so I can take a little of the feeling home with me… All I can gather is that Northumberland has some kind of actual ancient magic seeping from the ground and Karen and Tom capture some of this magic in the perfect bubble of Hunting Hall. The only solution is to keep coming back for top up sips of the potion! As usual we can't thank you enough and can't wait until next time xxx

This is our second stay here and we've really enjoyed it. This week has gone far too quickly! We've had such a lovely and relaxing time on the farm and we've got to know the peacocks and hens, especially the little red hen (could we take her away with us?!) Our first time in ‘Newts' after six consecutive years in ‘Fuffins', and we loved it. Did all our usual things; Holy Island, Etal, St Abbs, boat trip to Longstone, and the Grace Darling Museum at Bamburgh was really good. Newly refurbished Black Bull was a bonus - great food and beer! See you next year and thank you.

Another week in this lovely, cosy cottage gone far too soon. Amazingly sunny week and some great walks - including the farm trail. Many thanks to Tom for giving us the tour of the lambing sheds and to Karen for the lovely cake and goodies – and to both of you for creating such a sole replenishing retreat for weary townies like us. Here we are again. Back for the fourth time and by no means our last. We immediately relax as soon as we see the signs for Beal, then Kentstone. It's like our second home here at Newt Cottage. Karen and Tom are really special people who make a difference to the land, environment and to people they meet (like us).

I am usually the care giver. When I come here I feel spoiled and cared for. Nick is visibly more relaxed and the peace (together with the sound of hens and peacocks etc.), has almost a healing quality. We go home rejuvenated with our batteries charged. Northumberland is without doubt a beautiful, special place. Hunting Hall is our bolt home. Thank you both so much for all you do. We strive to live as eco friendly as possible. Being here is definitely where we find peace. Love, Chris and Nick.

What a wonderful time we have had. The cottage is beautiful, cosy and warm and we have been looked after very well by Karen and Tom. The weather has been very kind to us, a little cold but sunny every day. The cold doesn't bother you when you can come back to such a beautiful cottage and farm. We have had another magical week here at beautiful Hunting Hall. So magical that time seems to have been speeded up!! We have fitted a lot in with highlights being seeing my big bro coming 5th in the Kielder Marathon!...We also visited Warkworth hermitage for the first time which was fascinating and well worth a visit. This trip also saw our first visit to Alwnick Castle and Garden- I don't know why we've waited so long, it was brilliant! Especially loved the treehouse. Final shouts out to the chippy at Coldingham with yummy chip dinners to be taken to the beach…, the wonderful weather and of course, as always to our superb lovely hosts Tom and Karen. xxx

We love this beautiful place so much we want to live here! Third visit since March last year and we have seen the farm now in spring, autumn and summer. We really enjoy watching the wildlife on the farm trail and listening to the birds and even the wind blowing through the trees – can't imagine ever staying anywhere else – thanks to Tom and Karen for making this place so special!! xxx

Unlike (seemingly!) everyone else the weather was unkind to us but this was still a gorgeous place to spend a week. Thank you so much for your warm welcome and the use of this wonderful cottage on your idyllic farm. We saw the barn owl (with prey) a roe deer with 2 fawns, had a very close encounter with some hare, as well as long lists of other wildlife - and all within a few minutes of ‘home'. We also had a magical afternoon on the Farne Islands (our one bit of sun!) as well as time in Berwick and on Holy Island, plus a quick visit to Alnwick/Alnmouth. We love Northumberland and will return. Thank you.

Soooo good to be back for our 6th visit to our second home 😊 We have loved seeing the area in a different season had have found lots of new places to explore, as well as seeing our favourites in a new light. Roughting Lynn waterfall was truly magical with the bluebells! Thank you Karen and Tom for making us so welcome as usual, it's been lovely to see you again, as well as getting to know Karen's Mum and Dad (who were a pleasure to meet). We've had the most heavenly week and are so sad to leave. The children have loved the chickens and the peacocks – not to mention the bunnies and piglets. The cottage is beautiful and you really understand hospitality. We will definitely be back. xxx

We've all had a really fabulous holiday. Beautiful cottage and gardens. The children have especially enjoyed spending time on the farm – even got to feed a very young lamb, and got a tour of the lambing shed from one of the friendly girls working here. We also enjoyed the farm trails and dipping pond. Racing sticks down the burn in the sunshine kept us busy for hours. The beaches at Bamburgh, Alnmouth and Beadnell were great for sand castling… Thanks!

A wonderful week with the Northumberland weather very kind – the piglets and lambs have been the highlight. Thank you for you hospitality and we hope to return soon…

The farm is so nice and idyllic that it has made it hard to leave to explore further afield. The shepherd’s hut was beautifully presented and has been a very cosy place to stay. Our visit coincided with the archaeological dig in the grounds. Very interesting and very inspiring for us to see and experience the scope of this farm in terms of community, sustainable methods and sheer brilliance in hospitality and welcome of visitors. What a special place this is. We enjoyed the combination of how close it was to things we wanted to visit and how lovely a place it is here, so we could take a walk around the farm and see all the beauty. The cabin itself is cosy and homely; it brought us a lot of joy spending our evenings here relaxing after a long day. The extra touches such as the phenomenally good cake on our arrival, with the beautiful flowers whose smell greeted us home each day, made the place more than a place to leave our things, but rather somewhere we looked forward to spending time in.

The hut is perfect – a compact home from home. We have loved our stay in this peaceful haven.

We loved our stay, perfect retreat for a 30+ week pregnant woman! So cosy with the fires lit and fantastic amenities for such a compact space. We brought the Yorkshire sun with us (and the snow!). Hunting Hall Farm in the snow looks even more spectacular and the deer and wildlife were even easier to spot. Lots going on at the farm, as always; ewes being scanned, bullocks being made lighter and Tom planting a mixed hedge at the new copse.

Our second visit and just as perfect as the first! Wasn’t expecting snow and big freeze but still made it round about – Holy Island, Craster, walked the coast from the causeway to Berwick – and a lovely warm Fuffins to come back to. Thank you, Karen and Tom for all your hospitality, warm welcome and all the goodies you so generously provided! See you next year and have a very merry Xmas.

Back again to recharge our batteries. Revisited our favourite places and found some new places. Weather pretty good- no storm and no power cuts which is always a plus! Seeing the seal colony/pups at St Abbs head was a bonus – the variety of ‘coast’ from the cliffs at St Abbs to the wide expanse of beaches makes every walk different. The new coffee shop at Fenwick Village Hall is definitely worth a visit – even the donkeys have been! Thanks for another wonderful stay.

Where did the time go? A week isn’t enough. We’d better come for a fortnight in January then. Daisy wrote an essay and had much needed time to re-charge her batteries. Suzanne celebrated her birthday this week with dear friends. Some good weather, some good walks – sorry we didn’t seem to have time for tree planting Tom! Will try harder in January.

Another really lovely relaxing week (our 6th!), which is just what the doctor ordered. Thank you for all your wonderful hospitality, the place as always is immaculate! The boys have so enjoyed the company of the dogs this week, Hunting Hall really holds a special place in the hearts – lots of memories made! See you again, lots of love!

I wish I had a job where I could wear a boiler suite and drive around this idyllic farm all day with my dog sitting on my lap and pretending that I’m working. Tom has nabbed mu ideal job! We’ve had yet another blissful week at Hunting Hall and we brought (as recommended by Karen) the sunny Yorkshire weather up with us. We’ve been visiting for many years but always find something new… Thank you, Karen and Tom, for preserving some much needed sanity at Hunting Hall where you both work so very, very hard to make it very, very special.

We waited 2 years but it was worth the wait. Wonderful week of wholesome family time and fresh air. The cottage is absolutely perfect. Faultless. We loved the archaeological dig, such friendly people and interesting activity… Great walks from the farm to Lowick and we loved the trail. Simply and incredible farm cottage and week. Thank you xxx

Another wonderful return visit to the Furrins. Everything perfect as usual and great to see Tom and Karen again. Enjoyed many of our usual days out and frequent walks around the pond field and farm trial. A wonderful first family holiday – so good to be back at Hunting Hall farm after first visiting here as a NC AONB intern in 2012! We have had a great time revisiting old favourites (Barter Books) and discovering new places (Hirsel Estate). Maddie has enjoyed seeing the animals every morning and evening and also playing in the house. Had a beautiful walk in Kyloe Woods with Karen and Tom. We have made so many happy memories here and will be back to make more next year. Thank you for making us so welcome! xxx It has been wonderful to see Maddie enjoying playing and seeing the animas every day on the farm. She has seen new sights and experienced so many new things! Can’t wait to come back next year!

Another wonderful week at Hunting Hall, so relaxing and revitalising. Despite the wind we managed to get out for some wonderful walk on Holy Island and in the Cheviots (the Hillfort Trail). The boys have loved being able to walk around the farm independently and we are so happy to see all of the animals. They even enjoyed mucking out the donkeys! Already looking forward to coming back next year.

What a delightful place to stay. And what passion, talent and attention detail are displayed by Tom and Karen. So sad to see all the tree down from the storm and hope to return when a few more attractions are open. But notwithstanding it was lovely weather and this area is simply beautiful, as are the people who live here. Thanks to Tom and Karen for a lovely stay.

An amazing 2 weeks of fabulous sunshine with hardly a cloud in sight for a fortnight. We brought the Yorkshire weather with us. Great walks, great sightseeing and some lovely lunches. A very thorough post-Xmas recovery. Enjoyed doing a few jobs around the farm to try to tidy up after Storm Arwen, whose effects were devastating in this area. It was good to be able to show Tom how proper Yorkshire dry stone walling is done!

Daisy joined us for the weekend. She is a 21 year old working girl now but has loved visiting Hunting Hall since she was 7! And she still gets just as excited coming as when she was little. Tom and Karen have watched her growing up.

Finally back after 12 years, still as lovely as the first time. Had 2 weeks with lots of walks, nights in front of the fire and long soaks in the bath. Survived Storm Arwen - that was an interesting 24 hours. Thanks to Karen and Tom for providing porridge, soup and flasks of hot water to keep us going!

Well, what can we say, other than amazing and fantastic. Over the years we have stayed in many self-catering places. We can honestly say this has been THE BEST. Thank you, Tom and Karen, for a wonderful welcome, lots of lovely treats and beautifully clean home.

An amazing place to stay – thank you, Karen and Tom, for everything you do here. Beautiful beaches, walks in the Cheviots and history all around. Lovely seeing the hares on the farm and so many birds on the coast.

This is our third visit to Hunting Hall and it has been as wonderful as ever. My parents stayed in Newt Cottage this time so it has been a lovely family holiday. Highlights have been seeing 50 or so seals at St Cuthbert’s Isle off Holy Island, Ford Moss nature reserve, the beach, and Floors Castle. The farm is so peaceful and refreshing – thank you Karen, Tom and family!

A fantastic fortnight exploring old haunts and discovering new ones. Always amazes us how much there is to find in Northumberland. Our 4th visit to this beautiful place! Thank you Karen and Tom – We love staying here, it is perfect in every way for our family. Just what we all needed! From farm walks, coast cycling, to visiting the National Museum of flight, combined with great weather all week too. We will be back.

In a daze, a sun and T-shirt week in north Northumberland. Hills and beach, nine Iron Age forts, one cup and ring stone (large) one broch; strange geology; two curlews, umpteen joyful larks. Exhilaration, fresh air and fun.

Another visit… and already booked the next! Well worth waiting for – we feel recharged and refreshed. And we saw dolphins at Cheswick Bay. AND a hare in the field. Thank you for a beautifully clean cottage and another wonderful holiday. A very special place. x

Blessed with fine weather and great walking. So many highlights – where to start? Followed all the way up college valley by a heron, blue tits feeding their young in the barn wall, the new swinging hammock! and a pod of dolphins close to the shore at Goswick. An oasis in a frenetic world.

5th visit to The Fuffins and we are so lucky to have been able to [come] as lockdown restrictions have lifted. What a week it has been, wall to wall sunshine, if a bit chilly! Boys have enjoyed it so much. Thank you, Karen and Tom, for all your hard work as always making our Hunting Hall holiday a heavenly home from home! We will of course be back!

Another lovely stay! Did lots of walks around the farm trail, even a picnic in the orchard! We find this place very beautiful and special! And Tom and Karen are very special people. Next stay’s already booked!!!

We have had another great time. Came across the ‘Ring and Cup’ marked stones about 5 miles south [west] of Hunting Hall. These are very old and worth visiting.

Our 3rd time here, we enjoy it so much. The house is perfect – kids love it... Hopefully back again next year.

Our first time at Fuffins – we’ve had a superb week; experienced so much friendliness and kindness! We hope to be back. Thank you so much, Karen and Tom! X

4th stay here and another fantastic week, really don’t want to go home. Everything is so peaceful and we have been looked after so well as always. Best day was having a leisurely walk across the fields to the orchard and ‘Black Bull’ for Sunday roast – stuff of our dreams!! Thank you again – we will be back!

What is it about The Fuffins? We read about bad flooding at home; we hear gloomy BBC forecasts. But when we’re at The Fuffins we don’t care because we just love it. Thanks again Tom and Karen; warm welcome as always and your special ingredients for making it so special

The heron welcomed us on the A1 when we arrived, and said goodbye near Meg’s Wood on Friday afternoon. This is our first winter visit and we were blessed with wonderful sunny weather. Great walking weather and we ‘summited’ Yeavering Bell. A week was great – 2 weeks will be better. Thank you, Karen and Tom, for providing such a special welcome, as always.

Another wonderful relaxing stay at Hunting Hall; special mention for our wonderful hosts, the ‘chocolate cake’ and all our animal friends; off to say goodbye to them all until our next time.

As planned, we brought Harry for the first few days of our second visit to The Fuffins and he loved it! A good first little holiday with the grandparents (and we had the rest of the week to recover!). An amazing week, particularly visiting the Farne Islands. Recommended!! The boys love it here. Fynn wants to come and live in Fuffins! We had a lovely holiday as usual. The donkeys are brilliant! Also we visited ‘the [archaeological] dig’ over in the field. So, as our entry for March 2015, we’re back via a week in Newt last year. Our 4th visit now and still looking forward to our arrival as much as the first time. The cottage, its comforts and lovely edible goodies are always wonderful. It’s so much like coming home despite the 280 miles trip. We saw some more places and interesting sites this time – particularly in the Scottish Borders area. Thank you again, Karen and Tom, just carry on doing what you’re doing – fantastic!

Well – what an exciting week… “the great storm” – amazing weather uprooting trees (and almost - us!)Blown around Duddo standing stones and Lindisfarne. Wow! Then… “the great power cut” – 24 hours of back to time past with not internet, TV. Just shows they make life easy but are non-essential every day!! We were very grateful for Tom and Karen’s flasks of boiling water for cups of tea though – and the fish and chip van’s perfect timing to arrive in Lowick. Fantastic cottage, lovely walks, amazing place and lovely people. Already booked to comeback 😊 x

Once again a wonderful stay – we met up with old friends and made some new ones (staying in Newt). We walked the farm trail – smiled at the donkeys, nosey peacocks and inquisitive piggies! We visited Alnwick Gardens and dined in the Treehouse whilst a harpist played (magic!!). We heard traditional Northumbrian folk music in Bamburgh – wonderful.

We’ve collected sea glass and sea pottery from local beaches, foraged sloes and blackberries, walked from Craster to Dunstanburgh and beyond – and walked to St Cuthbert’s Cave. Stayed for the day on Lindisfarne when the tide was in. Lots and lots of memories made. Thank you for this special place, Tom and Karen xxx

We’ve been wracking our brains trying to think how The Fuffins could be improved but have come to the conclusion that it’s impossible. It is absolutely perfect and we have loved every minute! Think this is our fifth visit and our joy at being here is still as great as our first visit. Once again we have found so many new places to visit. We found some superb cup markings at the top of Doddington Golf Club. A great week's weather and a great way to celebrate Suzanne's retirement. I gave her a choice of anywhere in the world to celebrate – Suzanne chose Hunting Hall, so that says it all!

It was Sheep Rodeo Time on Thursday! They thundered through the farmyard, leaping an invisible gate, sleek from the shearing and hungry enough to stop for a quick nibble at the honeysuckle. Wool everywhere and peacocks shed feathers in sympathy. Many thanks to Tom for letting us watch the shearing and explaining the details of what we saw.

We also appreciated Mr Big the Goat and his 2 heavies. “How nice to see you, Mr Bond…” We love Hunting Hall.

P.S. The history tour was great; thank you so much for that, it sparked off quite a few ideas…

Back again this summer to enjoy a fantastic peaceful week at The Fuffins. Our mother, Joan Tucker, has lots of lovely trees planted in her memory – the crab apple trees around the edge of the lawn and trees below in the Dene. Wonderful to have these trees growing here. As always a wonderful welcome in the best cottage we have ever stayed in and an outstanding location (is there any wonder we keep returning?) How can a place just keep getting better? It's magic. We look forward to seeing Mum's trees growing and the birds finding new food and new nesting places. And we look forward to contributing to a new copse in the yard corner. P.S. Our first visit to Hunting Hall and what an idyllic week. Warm October sunshine, cycling through quiet lanes, ambling around the farm, talking pigs with Tom and lots of playing with wool... We didn't need to stray far to see some wonderful countryside - Karen's cycle route via Roughtinglinn is highly recommended. The walk leading to the waterfall is magical and worth seeking out. Thanks for creating a perfect retreat here - quiet, relaxing and with such a warm welcome. We hope we'll be back again before too long. X

What a wonderful and welcoming cottage, with everything imaginable provided. So comfortable in every way. The cottage is so comfortable and well set out. It was such a joy to come back to every day, and get cosy in front of the lovely log fire. What a treat form day 1. It will be a fabulous memory. What a great region of the country - Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Alnwick, even a trip to Edinburgh for the day (?9.50!!). We found a lovely new coffee shop in Berwick too - fairtrade and organic and lovely food - on the quayside at the Chandlery, Lowry's. Really nice. Thank you so much for the most wonderful holiday in the North and all the lovely touches that make this such a great place. Xx

We had hoped to bring Mum up to share in the joy of Fuffins and Karen & Tom's wonderful Northumbrian hospitality, but she passed away 93 years young on the 16th August. Our visit to Hunting Hall to recharge our batteries and to laugh over 'grandma Joan' stories was just what we needed. Peace, nature and herons (Grandma's favourite bird). It is hard to put into words how time at the Fuffins has helped us all. Thank you. We hope to organise 'Joan's tree' in a short white. Until next summer xx

Thank you so much, Tom and Karen, for creating this wonderful place! We've had another very special week and had some really great day out, but the highlight of each day is coming home to the farm and The Fuffins - it really is a little piece of heaven and we don't want to leave!

We came to you for 1 weekend, then 1 week and it was 2 weeks... so next time? Such a special place made extra special by the cherishing evidenced everywhere - the animals, our welcome, the environment. Thank you Tom and Karen - a special place created by special people - we will be back!

This has been our fifth visit to Hunting hall and we are delighted to see the developing of the environmentally-friendly policies - the greening of the hedgerows, the increase of orchards and fruit trees and the very peaceful atmosphere. For us, this has been a very relaxing break from the 'quiet' life we lead in retirement. We particularly have enjoyed renewing contact with Tom and Karen, Margaret, Roberta and Alice, You have all been very friendly and hospitable.

How can an email be warm-hearted? Well it is when Karen and Tom send it. And then it is made even better with their lovely smiling welcome and that fire!! Despite the grey skies every day, we had a wonderful hike - knowing we could come back to a warm and very comfortable Fuffins. A wonderful week at Hunting Hall Farm. The cottage was cosy and comfortable and with all the animals, just perfect for a small boy... The weather has been great - picnics on the beach in November, you can't ask for more than that! Thanks ever so much for this lovely place to be.

We had a wonderful relaxing time in The Fuffins. It's obvious how much love and care has been invested in this place and it's been a pleasure and privilege to stay here. We will hope to return!

After a slightly curtailed visit to Newt Cottage in 2007, we (Susie and Andy) have returned, along with Sarah, Laura and grandson Samuel – hence the need for the larger Fuffins! We have had a fantastic week in beautiful accommodation and managed to cram in a huge amount (Farne Island, Lindisfarne, Berwick, Alnwick Garden, Ford and Etal) and some delightful beaches. Many, many thanks for providing us with such a wonderful holiday. We shall be back!

We have returned to Hunting Hall and The Fuffins after two years and we have had an absolutely fantastic holiday on the farm again. Everything was great – the cottage with its garden, the farm including the Newt trail, as well as this fabulous area of the North East. We couldn't have wished for more, but maybe the sun ;-) as always, time went too fast. Dear Karen & Tom, thank you very much for being wonderful hosts and for your patients with Hanna & Ruben!

We decided to mark our 5th visit by getting married. We knew it would be a wonderful place for a honeymoon. Very many thanks to Karen, Tom and Margaret for the very special festive evening and to the local gods for fantastic weather. High “Ah..h...h” factor due to bunny washing face on lawn, little piglets, and big eared fox cub in dene.

Once again it's been perfect! We have had a fantastic holiday. The grandchildren were in awe of the area, the farm and the cottage. They want to return next year - so see you next year!

I always said that I would never stay anywhere twice - this is our third visit! It is impossible to fault anything, Karen and Tom, you have done wonders here. This is a very special place.

Yet another fantastic stay in The Fuffins! We have all enjoyed the walks around the farm and Bruce loves his pond dipping and bird watching trips!!! Thank you for all your hard work with the cottages and the orchard. We will be back... it is a perfect family break.

It was a privilege and a pleasure to celebrate our Golden Wedding by coming back to The Fuffins. Thank you all so much for your welcome, your hospitality and most of all for that wonderful present of the painting by Alice. It will be greatly treasured, along with all our happy memories.

Excellent and immaculately kept accommodation. The girls particularly enjoyed their story-book twin bedroom. Pigs and surprisingly endearing.

Our third visit to The Fuffins. Lovely home from home, and frequent early morning visits form the peacocks, peahen and baby rabbit! The weather was not the best sadly, but on the couple of dry days we got we visited Eyemouth and fed the seals (watch out for the cheeky seagulls!) and Spittal. See you soon!

Cottage just as we had thought it would be. So welcoming, bread and cake fantastic. We wanted a relaxing week, what more could we have asked for. The hare having his breakfast on the grass every morning was the icing on the cake!! Many thanks for a wonderful time.

Our 4th time, and The Fuffins and Hunting Hall never fail to enchant. Many thanks to Tom and Karen for their wonderful hospitality, and we have sussed your peacock surveillance scheme.

This year's visit was different as we brought our daughter Kate, her husband Gareth and our grandson Fynn. They stayed for a few days, and loved it as much as we do. Hope to bring our son and his wife and family next year, they will love it also!

First visit but we shall definitely come again. Thank you so much Tom and Karen for a lovely relaxing holiday. A week is not enough. We've never been self catering before where groceries were provided! We can recommend a walk across the fields for Sunday lunch at the Black Bull, the 45 min walk back helps the digestion. The Red Lion at Millfield is good and excellent value. We got everything we needed from the shop in Lowick, which is very well stocked with friendly staff and we especially recommend the Border tart! Thanks also for the bread and cake, I needn't have brought ours and our cake is going home again untouched.

We have had a fantastic holiday at The Fuffins. The cottage has become our home from home, with the boys enjoying the farm and gardens. Thank you for such warm and genuine hospitality throughout the week. We leave with many happy memories.

So much chocolate cake, so little time... Whether it's swimming at Eyemouth, watching from the warmth of the cafe crashing waves, terrorising the little pigs recently born, playing at Harestanes, the outdoor play space at the Barn at Beal... so many distractions away from the chocolate cake in the fridge. Both my 4 year old daughter, Jessica, and I have loved our visit. Mum and Alex had to stay behind to look after our sick Father in law – still, more chocolate cake for us... xxx

Tiny pigs and lambing in progress added to the Northumberland experience & the weather was the icing on the cake; magnificent. So many palaces on the farm to sit and reflect, relax, or dream of the future. Thank you for a wonderfully peaceful and relaxing week and we cannot wait until next time.

We were looking for an escape from all the pre Christmas chaos and luckily found Hunting Hall and The Fuffins. Steaming mugs of hot chocolate and Karen's scrumptious chocolate gingerbread by a roaring fire – bliss! The Fuffins truly is an idyll; A great place to relax and unwind – just what the doctor ordered!
