What our guests say about a visit to

The Fuffins

We are always grateful for the kind words our guests write in the visitor’s book. Thank you to everyone who has contributed; your enthusiasm and encouragement are inspiring!

To the Fuffins we’ll drink many toasts,
It is run by such wonderful hosts.
It has peacocks and pigs,
Archaeological digs –
We’ll come back, and then haunt it as ghosts!

...on 2nd thoughts...

… but it really just wouldn’t be right,
To give anybody a fright –
So we’ll be most discreet,
Keep things clean, wipe our feet,
Weed the garden, and keep out of sight.
Richard and Helen, York, October 2022

Our second time at Hunting Hall and we have absolutely loved returning to The Fuffins for a wonderful week (which is not long enough!). It was lovely walking the farm trail again and seeing all the work which has been done in the last couple of years, plus the beautiful birthday bridge. The girl’s will miss Winston [the farm cat], specially seeing him appear at the kitchen door every day! There’s so much to see and do in this area, you don’t need to travel far. Karen’s recommendation of The Hirsel Estate was superb as the rhododendrons were spectacular. It is so peaceful here – the only sounds are the birds and the sheep – Hunting Hall is a really special place thanks to Karen and Tom. We have never seen so many hares in one day as we did on the farm trail, plus deer. We’re coming back to experience it again – and thank you for the welcome treats - much appreciated – the cake was divine. Thank you, Karen and Tom, for everything!x

Our 5th or 6th visit to Hunting Hall and 2nd in The Fuffins. We love it here, the beautiful house, warm welcome of yummy cakes, and fantastic hosts. We’ve ventured further on the farm trail this year, loved Karen’s Birthday Bridge. Seen lots of deer, hares, rabbits, fox and so many birds, which I love. Loved our walk to the Lowick Village Shop, the breakfast at the Black Bull was brilliant – a great find. Thank you, as always, we love our holidays here. See you next May x

Our second visit to The Fuffins but we’ve lost count of the number of times we have been to Hunting Hall and stayed in Newt Cottage. Over the years we have always looked forward to our weekly stay at Hunting Hall. Driving up the A1 and spotting the familiar signs leading up to our haven is always exciting. Karen and Tom are special people, who make our world a special place. Their influence on our environment motivates us to do our bit too. See you next year. Loads of love, Nick and Chris xxxxxx.
Nick and Chris, Merseyside, May 2025
We have had a wonderful break in this beautiful cottage –so hard to choose between Fuffins and Newt now! Thank you so much for your kind and generous hospitality.
Carolyn and Ian, Skelton, January 2026
Our fifth stay in The Fuffins and, as always, we’ve loved every minute. Hunting Hall is so pretty at this time of year, and we’ve really enjoyed our farm walks. So much hard work has gone on since our last visit and it was great to see all the new trees, the birthday bridge and the pond renovations. We’ve been to all of our favourite places, and even added some new ones to the list. Thank you so much, Karen, Tom and Winston, for making us feel so welcome. We’re really sad to be leaving but look forward to seeing you again next year.
Viv and Paul, Kent, May 2025
Lovely quiet and peaceful stay. Lots of great wildlife sightings. Really enjoyed our time here. Thank you for sharing this beautiful space with us.
Ceri, Mark and Judith, Wetherby and Harrogate, October 2025
Our second visit to Northumberland and it will not be our last. A lovely week in The Fuffins and we walked far too far, it’s hard to pick the best walk as they were all different and amazing, big bonus – sunshine all week, we wish we had brought our shorts. Thanks, Karen and Tom.
Fiona and Martin, Aberdeenshire, October 2025
Thank you for another wonderful stay. We have enjoyed new walks and places to visit, as well as revisiting places from our last visit. A brilliant trip to Holy Island, Cragside and more great pizzas at the Cheviot Brewery. We hope to be back again.
Katy and Dave, Chesterfield, September 2025
We have loved every minute of our time in your ‘oh so cosy cottage’. There was nothing we could fault! Kitchen was beautifully equipped and beds so snuggly! Extremely warm. A beautiful area to explore, we were so lucky with the weather. Thank you very much. This must be the origin of the expression ‘magnetic north! Really enjoyed our trip to the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne. Thank you, Karen and Tom, for everything. We feel sure we will see you again.
Beverley and Richard, Philip and Marion, Sporle and Chelmsford, September 2025

Rachel and James, London, November 2025
We’ve had a wonderful week – restful and relaxing after a stressful and emotional few weeks. Thank you, Karen and Tom, for your fantastic hospitality and kindness. We’ve missed H.H. in 2024, so it’s amazing to see the changes and all the hard work both of you have done. The farm trail was super, especially the Iron Age info. boards and the recently drained Meg’s Pond. We’ve visited some of our favourite places and a few new ones too. We very much look forward to staying in The Piggery for the first time next June.
Graeme and Andrea, Warboys, August 2025
Another lovely visit! Enjoyed vising all our favourite spots along with some new ones! Meg’s Wood has grown so much! We first came 17 years ago and the trees were just shrubs. Karen and Tom were welcoming as always. Thank you Hunting Hall!
Toni, Will and Teigen, Beverley, August 2025
A lovely two week stay partly enjoying local environs and partly venturing out. House was very comfortable and the information provided goes beyond anything we’ve seen before. Tremendous eco-focus all around. We ventured to various places[. . .] Many thanks to Karen and Tom.

Another wonderful visit to The Fuffins! The boys loved it as usual, especially Will as he can roam about safely and visit his old friends, the animals! Fuffins never changes (I’m glad to say) and we always love coming here. Lovely to see you again, Karen and Tom. See you again next year!
Brenda, Jim, Fynn and Will, Osset, June 2025
Thank you for your warm and generous welcome. We enjoyed the bread, cake and all the other goodies! We’ve so appreciated the peace and tranquillity of Hunting Hall. It truly is an inspiring place to stay. The notes for the farm trail added a lot to the walk. Saw hares, dragonflies, a flying heron and identified 30 different birds - with the help of an app! Thank you, Karen and Tom, for sharing this beautiful place with us.
Margaret and David, Peebles, June 2025
Loved our time here once again. Delicious ginger cake left for us. Discovered the Cheviots for the first time – so beautiful, wild and scenic. Look forward to our next visit.
Alison and Alec, Nr. Saltburn, April 2025
Our third time at Hunting Hall and another fabulous week! We thoroughly enjoyed the very comfortable cottage and its stunning garden and views and, of course, the farm and all its animals and farm trail. Following the great suggestions in the folder we did some great walks, including Blawearie, Cuthbert’s Cave etc. We also did a boat trip and saw the puffins, visited Housesteads, popped over to Lindisfarne and fitted in some beach cricket on a stunning local beach. A highlight of the week was the Palm Sunday procession, with Freddie the farm’s donkey at the front! The Black Bull was excellent, with a beautiful walk back in the evening sunshine. Thank you so much to Karen and Tom for sharing their beautiful home with us, making us so welcome, and the fabulous specially gluten free treats! We will be back ♥
Kiri, Andrew, Maia and Rory, West Sussex, April 2025
Such and amazing week here with so much lovely spring sunshine. We enjoyed seeing the lambs going out in the field and visiting our favourite places (Cragside, Wallington, Howick Hall, Cheswick Beach, Ford Moss). We also added in some new adventures (The Hirsel thank you for the suggestion Karen) and were lucky enough to see dolphins on our boat trip to the Farne Islands  We can’t wait to come back Thank you, Karen and Tom.
Henry, Bella, Bemn and Naomi, Upminster, April 2025
A super week, loved our daily animals check. Lucky enough to see a lamb being born  Beautiful cottage and sparkling clean. Farm trail is great. Trips out to Bamburgh, Holy Island, Alnwick Garden, Eyemouth. Thank you for all your work – it means a lot to us. P.S. – nice birthday bridge, Karen! 
Steve and Gill, Kendal, Tim and Liz, Biggleswade, March 2025
Possibly our 4th or 5th visit to Hunting Hall. Our first visit to The Fuffins. Just wow!! We loved Newt Cottage but as the kids grew the Fuffins is magical. Tom and Karen’s welcome, as always, is faultless, the chocolate cake was amazing and the bread enjoyed by all. There are so many magical memories created here; the donkey delivering treats and Easter Eggs to our door will never be forgotten. Helping Tom in the lambing shed, bottle feeding and carrying lambs. I’ve never seen a 13 year old as enthralled. Hunting Hall feels like home, the warm welcoming smell of fresh linen, little touches, beautiful garden. We can’t recommend it enough and have already re-booked. A huge ‘thank you’x.
Tracey, Andrew, Theo and Willow, Mirfield, April 2024
This is our first visit to The Fuffins and most definitely will not be our last. There is just so much to see and do within a few miles. We have walked the farm trail quite a few times and have always seen deer and hares… and most importantly the welcome from Karen and Tom is second to none, the cottage is amazing and the cake and bread which was made and left for us by Karen was faultless. There is so much more to see and do. We will be back countess times, of that I am sure. Be safe, say safe and be happy. Thank you. P.S. How could I forget to mention all the animals and peacocks who bring so much to this whole experience. .
Lyn and Steve, Shropshire, May 2024
Lost count now of the number of times we have been to Hunting Hall. We haven’t, however, stayed in The Fuffins before; we always chose Newt Cottage. Both cottage are stunning and by far the best we have every stayed in. As usual you have both made our holiday so pleasurable. Your commitment to looking after our world in this ‘Garden of Eden’ makes it such a special place. You also look after your guests with so much love and care it is always a treat and a very special place to come back to time and time again. Thank you so much, Karen and Tom, we will see you again next year. Look after yourselves, too. xxxxxxxxxxx

We enjoyed the farm trail and meeting all the animals, especially Winston [the farm cat]. We have done some wonderful walks and found many lovely teashops and pubs. Thank you for all the welcome gifts and flowers too.
Katy and Dave Stiles, Chesterfield, October 2024
Thank you for such a warm welcome and incredibly peaceful stay. Enjoyed your farm and livestock and farm trail, especially the blue flowers: borage and [phacelia]. Enjoyed all the birds, delightful watching them on the bird feeders. Marvellous place from which to explore the wider area, too. All the very best for your future here and many, many thanks! X

Claire, Jim and Joe, Edinburgh, July 2024
Once again our stay in Fuffins has sped by! It’s always the same, year after year [Brenda and Jim were among our very first guests in 2006 and have come back every year ♥]. We love it here! The boys had a great time too, especially our grandson, Will, who went to see the ‘Dig’ [the archaeology excavation at the farm’s Iron Age settlement] with his Grandad.
Brenda, Jim, Will and Fynn, Burnley, June 2024

You have achieved so much, plain to see when you do the walk around the farm. You are the most wonderful hosts and a beautiful, magical place to stay. Thank you!
Ian and Melanie, Lincolnshire, May 2024
Another lovely week at The Fuffins! Boys have thoroughly enjoyed the farm as always, giving Tom a hand with mucking out and the company of the loveliest Mist, Queen and Winston [the farm sheep dogs and cat]. Thank you for such a lovely week, of course we will be back.
Sally, Guy, Walter and Rupert, Buckinghamshire, April 2024
We have had such a wonderful week in the super cosy and comfortable cottage. It’s been a real delight sharing the area with our children, having visited and stayed in Newt Cottage before they were born. We’ve loved hanging at the cottage, playing board games, exploring the farm trails, getting muddy in the garden, meeting the animals and enjoying a gin/beer in front of the fab fire! The area is stunning and we enjoyed many day trips. Thank you so much Karen and Tom for sharing your beautiful home and all the lovely touches e.g. flowers, cakes etc. We’re desperate to come back as soon as we can x
Kim, Andrew, Maia and Rory, East Grinstead, February 2024
We’ve been coming to Northumberland since 1980 – WHAT A PLACE!!! If you can’t enjoy a stay at The Fuffins, you can’t enjoy ‘owt’. Thank you.
Margaret and Tony, Harrogate, February 2024
Our first visit to Hunting Hall and what a week! A typical warm Northumbrian welcome and we couldn’t have asked for friendlier, more helpful hosts than Karen and Tom. Everything was great; our ‘little’ home for the week, the walks and exploring, and appreciating the farm, it’s ethos and the animals (especially Winston, Queen and Mist)💗. Thank you, Karen and Tom, for all the goodies, we enjoyed them. The natural wild flower arrangements were beautiful. Like everyone else who comes here the first time, it won’t be out last. See you in 2022 hopefully and have a wonderful Christmas.
Michael and Gabrielle, London, December 2021
A much needed break. What a lovely cottage, immaculately clean, so cosy, and beautiful flower from the cottage garden…We really enjoyed the farm trail, spotted the kingfisher but not sadly the barn owl, despite lurking in the sitouterie till 6pm!! Lovely walk, Bamburgh to Seahouses on the beach, and enjoyed a leisurely Sunday around Berwick… Thank you so much Karen and Tom, you are very special and the world needs more people like you! xxx
Katie and Andy, Norfolk, February 2023
Big skies, big hills, big food and, most importantly, big hearts! Return visit after 4 years, first time in the Fuffins after 9 wonderful holidays in Newt. Beautiful cottage and stunning garden. Those views! From watching the clouds dance over the Cheviots to the sky setting alight at sunset, to stepping out into a sea of stars with the milky way stretching overhead. Stepping back inside to such a beautiful, warm, cosy second home is the absolute cherry on the cake. We’ve had a lovely week exploring some of our old favourites, but finding new discoveries and new perspectives . . . It’s good to be back to sip on the magic potion which is this very special place. Thank you, Karen and Tom and Winston [the cat] too, for the lovely warm welcome. Carried on where we left off as good friends do! xxx
Kirsty, Lynda and Ian, Derbyshire, October 2023
Thank you so much from ‘The Returners’ and ‘The Newbies’. We loved our visit to the dig and hope it goes well in the coming weeks. This is an inspirational place with so much going on – you are doing such an amazing job of looking after your little patch of earth – Wendell Berry speaks of ‘The Peace of Wild Thigs’ – it’s here!! Many thanks x
Our second visit, so beautiful at this time of year. So much hard work put into keeping your home ‘tip top’! Thank you so much x
Paul, Jackie, Chris and Phil, Whitby and Bungay, April 2023
A week has been too short in the absolutely gorgeous cottage in the most idyllic setting. We have all loved our week on the farm – seeing the calf born on Sunday morning was very special! And we won’t forget sharing the garden with the peacocks!! The farm trail was superb, would love to do it in all seasons. And the welcome ‘goodies’ went down a treat, thank you so much, you have created something very special, Karen and Tom and we will be returning. It will be very hard to return to normal life after staying here! Thank you so much for everything!!

We have enjoyed our wintery stay here. Cottage is so cosy and comfortable. Everything you do is done with such care. Thank you so much.
Catherin and Ken, Appleby, December 2023
Third visit – second time in The Fuffins . . . Enjoyed the farm trail, scrumping the apples from the orchard. Jordan loved playing with the dogs and looking at all the animals each morning. Amazing flocks of fieldfares and redwings. Lovely bike ride round Ford and Etal, also enjoyed relaxing in the cosy Fuffins. Thanks Karen and Tom for another friendly welcome – we would love to return to sample a different season.

Our week at Fuffins has sadly come to an end. We look forwards to it all year, then in an instant it’s gone. The boys love coming here, they love the farm and the freedom and, of course, the animals! We really enjoyed our chat [with Karen] about the farm and all its history, it was great! We will look forward to returning as soon as we have left! The Piggery is going to be fabulous, well done! Lots of love,
Brenda, Jim, Fynn and Will, West Yorkshire, July 2023
We have had an absolutely brilliant (and much needed) holiday and our usual Hunting Hall therapy . . . Packing to leave now (boo hoo!) But back again soon (hurrah). Hats off to Karen and Tom for working so hard to create a little heaven here.
David and Suzanne, Beverley, June 2023
Thank you, Karen and Tom, for another lovely holiday in this idyll - already planning to come again, hopefully bringing our grandchildren. Loved seeing hares and a woodpecker all without getting in a car! We feel relaxed and very, very happy!

Another gorgeous week at Hunting Hall – all down to Karen and Tom again! Thank you both so much for all your kindness and for sharing this little piece of heaven with us. See you next year!! :)
Sue and John Crawford, North Nottinghamshire, May 2023
This is our second stay at Hunting Hall but our first time at The Fuffins. It is such a lovely cottage with an expansive and beautiful garden brimming with wildlife. Karen and Tom were so hospitable, leaving freshly baked cake and bread for us and bringing us round Easter eggs delivered by Freddie the donkey. Look out for the charming farm cat, Winston, and the adorable sheep dogs, Mist and Queen, although our highlight is the beautifully curated farm trail. We can’t wait to revisit next summer and see the new wildflower meadows. Thank you so much Karen and Tim, we have had an utterly amazing stay!
Ludo, Samantha and Freddie, Edinburgh, April 2023
Another lovely week on the farm, thank you so much Tom and Karen. Fabulous cottage - thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet and runs out and about xx
Sue and John Richardson, Blyth, March 2023
We’ve had such a lovely stay! The house is perfect, and so comfortable. The boys loved the farm and they’ll miss seeing the tractor and the dogs. Had some brilliant days at gorgeous beaches – Ross, Embleton etc. and enjoyed castle days. Thank you!
Jodie, Greg, Isaac and Charlie, Nottinghamshire, March 2023
We brought the Yorkshire sun with us (and the snow!). Hunting Hall Farm in the snow looks even more spectacular and the deer and wildlife were even easier to spot. Lots going on at the farm, as always; ewes being scanned, bullocks being made lighter and Tom planting a mixed hedge at the new copse.
David and Suzanne, Beverley January 2023
Our second visit and just as perfect as the first! Wasn’t expecting snow and big freeze but still made it round about – Holy Island, Craster, walked the coast from the causeway to Berwick – and a lovely warm Fuffins to come back to. Thank you, Karen and Tom for all your hospitality, warm welcome and all the goodies you so generously provided! See you next year and have a very merry Xmas.
Michael and Gabrielle, Norfolk, December 2023
Back again to recharge our batteries. Revisited our favourite places and found some new places. Weather pretty good- no storm and no power cuts which is always a plus! Seeing the seal colony/pups at St Abbs head was a bonus – the variety of ‘coast’ from the cliffs at St Abbs to the wide expanse of beaches makes every walk different. The new coffee shop at Fenwick Village Hall is definitely worth a visit – even the donkeys have been! Thanks for another wonderful stay.
Sarah and Jon, Blackburn, November 2022
Where did the time go? A week isn’t enough. We’d better come for a fortnight in January then. Daisy wrote an essay and had much needed time to re-charge her batteries. Suzanne celebrated her birthday this week with dear friends. Some good weather, some good walks – sorry we didn’t seem to have time for tree planting Tom! Will try harder in January.
David and Suzanne and Daisy, Beverley, November 2022
Another really lovely relaxing week (our 6th!), which is just what the doctor ordered. Thank you for all your wonderful hospitality, the place as always is immaculate! The boys have so enjoyed the company of the dogs this week, Hunting Hall really holds a special place in the hearts – lots of memories made! See you again, lots of love!
Sally, Guy, Walter and Rupert, Buckinghamshire, October 2022
PERFECT AGAIN Nothing else needs to be said!

Thank you for a warm welcome and a slice of heaven at this time of sadness [following the death of the queen].
Betty and Catherine, North Wales, September 2022
We’ve lost count how many times we’ve visited now. However, nothing has changed, still such a wonderful homely feel, comfortable, beautifully clean and fresh. Thank you for your super supply of food goodies and your warmth and kindness. Tinged with sadness following the death of HM QE II yesterday, we’ll always remember where we were when…
Graeme and Andrea, Cambridgeshire, September 2022

Once again we have had a fabulous holiday! Fuffins feels like our second home. It’s so familiar and comfy. Lovely seeing you both again, Karen and Tom. The boys love being here. The adore Winston [the farmhouse cat] and are going home to nag their Mum and Dad for a cat. I hope they succeed! See you both next year. Xxx
Brenda and Jim, Fynn and Will, West Yorkshire, June 2022
I wish I had a job where I could wear a boiler suite and drive around this idyllic farm all day with my dog sitting on my lap and pretending that I’m working. Tom has nabbed mu ideal job! We’ve had yet another blissful week at Hunting Hall and we brought (as recommended by Karen) the sunny Yorkshire weather up with us. We’ve been visiting for many years but always find something new… Thank you, Karen and Tom, for preserving some much needed sanity at Hunting Hall where you both work so very, very hard to make it very, very special.
David and Suzanne, Beverley, June 2022
We waited 2 years but it was worth the wait. Wonderful week of wholesome family time and fresh air. The cottage is absolutely perfect. Faultless. We loved the archaeological dig, such friendly people and interesting activity… Great walks from the farm to Lowick and we loved the trail. Simply and incredible farm cottage and week. Thank you xxx
Emma Leigh, Mikey and George, Worcestershire, June 2022
Another wonderful return visit to the Furrins. Everything perfect as usual and great to see Tom and Karen again. Enjoyed many of our usual days out and frequent walks around the pond field and farm trial. Particularly enjoyed a few hours ‘helping’ with the [archaeology] dig – fascinating to hear what ¬may¬ be there. Thank you again for a beautiful place and a warm welcome. See you in September. Love from…

Very warm welcome from Tom and Karen Mist and Queen [farm sheepdogs], Winston [farmhouse cat] and the peacocks… Thanks for the ‘welcoming’ food items left – quite exceptional and very enjoyable. To our dear friends, Karen and Tom – thank you very much for another lovely week in The Fuffins. We have enjoyed every moment 😊😊 x
Chris and Lousie, Lancashire, April 2022
A wonderful first family holiday – so good to be back at Hunting Hall farm after first visiting here as a NC AONB intern in 2012! We have had a great time revisiting old favourites (Barter Books) and discovering new places (Hirsel Estate). Maddie has enjoyed seeing the animals every morning and evening and also playing in the house. Had a beautiful walk in Kyloe Woods with Karen and Tom. We have made so many happy memories here and will be back to make more next year. Thank you for making us so welcome! xxx It has been wonderful to see Maddie enjoying playing and seeing the animas every day on the farm. She has seen new sights and experienced so many new things! Can’t wait to come back next year!
Sam, Ant and Maddie, Walton, March 2022
Another wonderful week at Hunting Hall, so relaxing and revitalising. Despite the wind we managed to get out for some wonderful walk on Holy Island and in the Cheviots (the Hillfort Trail). The boys have loved being able to walk around the farm independently and we are so happy to see all of the animals. They even enjoyed mucking out the donkeys! Already looking forward to coming back next year.
The Scott Family, Cullercoats, February 2022
What a delightful place to stay. And what passion, talent and attention detail are displayed by Tom and Karen. So sad to see all the tree down from the storm and hope to return when a few more attractions are open. But notwithstanding it was lovely weather and this area is simply beautiful, as are the people who live here. Thanks to Tom and Karen for a lovely stay.
Janice and Paul, Suffolk, January 2022
An amazing 2 weeks of fabulous sunshine with hardly a cloud in sight for a fortnight. We brought the Yorkshire weather with us. Great walks, great sightseeing and some lovely lunches. A very thorough post-Xmas recovery. Enjoyed doing a few jobs around the farm to try to tidy up after Storm Arwen, whose effects were devastating in this area. It was good to be able to show Tom how proper Yorkshire dry stone walling is done!

Daisy joined us for the weekend. She is a 21 year old working girl now but has loved visiting Hunting Hall since she was 7! And she still gets just as excited coming as when she was little. Tom and Karen have watched her growing up.
David and Suzanne Tucker, Beverley, January 2022
Finally back after 12 years, still as lovely as the first time. Had 2 weeks with lots of walks, nights in front of the fire and long soaks in the bath. Survived Storm Arwen - that was an interesting 24 hours. Thanks to Karen and Tom for providing porridge, soup and flasks of hot water to keep us going!
Sarah and Jon, Blackburn, November 2021
Well, what can we say, other than amazing and fantastic. Over the years we have stayed in many self-catering places. We can honestly say this has been THE BEST. Thank you, Tom and Karen, for a wonderful welcome, lots of lovely treats and beautifully clean home.

As always we’ve had a lovely week at The Fuffins. The boys love coming to the farm. The animals fascinate them! The fell in love with Winston and are now nagging their Mum for a cat! The ice cream was delicious, Karen. See you next year. Take care, lots of love.
Brenda and Jim Scott, West Yorkshire, September 2021

Stuart and Alison, Reading, September 2021
This is our third visit to Hunting Hall and it has been as wonderful as ever. My parents stayed in Newt Cottage this time so it has been a lovely family holiday. Highlights have been seeing 50 or so seals at St Cuthbert’s Isle off Holy Island, Ford Moss nature reserve, the beach, and Floors Castle. The farm is so peaceful and refreshing – thank you Karen, Tom and family!
Naomi, Ben, Henry and Isabella, Upminster, August 2021
A fantastic fortnight exploring old haunts and discovering new ones. Always amazes us how much there is to find in Northumberland. Favourite moment of many was watching the bats spectacular aerial displays – standing by the first ‘TOOT’ sign at about 9.30 p.m. – Thank you Karen and Tom. See you next year! Xx

Claire, Jim and Joe, Edinburgh, July 2021
In a daze, a sun and T-shirt week in north Northumberland. Hills and beach, nine Iron Age forts, one cup and ring stone (large) one broch; strange geology; two curlews, umpteen joyful larks. Exhilaration, fresh air and fun.
Pauline and David Ward, Cheshire, June 2021
Another visit… and already booked the next! Well worth waiting for – we feel recharged and refreshed. And we saw dolphins at Cheswick Bay. AND a hare in the field. Thank you for a beautifully clean cottage and another wonderful holiday. A very special place. x

Great place, loved The Fuffins, loved the animals, loved Northumberland. Really enjoyed ourselves 😊
Gill and Steve, Kendal, June 2021
Blessed with fine weather and great walking. So many highlights – where to start? Followed all the way up college valley by a heron, blue tits feeding their young in the barn wall, the new swinging hammock! and a pod of dolphins close to the shore at Goswick. And seeing Karen and Tom again and catching up on family news xx
David and Suzanne Tucker, Beverley, June 2021

My first and very memorable time in Northumberland. What an experience! Everything here is perfect, cosy, and the welcome I received was fabulous, having heard so much about [my family’s] wonderful hols . So quiet and peaceful, beautiful . Martin, Sasha, Jess and Maddie, August 2020
We have had another great time. Came across the ‘Ring and Cup’ marked stones about 5 miles south [west] of Hunting Hall. These are very old and worth visiting.
Carolyn and Malcolm, July, 2020
Note from Karen – The prehistoric cup and ring markings at Roughtin Lynn are particularly impressive, but there are several examples in the area. Don’t forget to visit Hunting Hall’s own Iron Age settlement!
Our 3rd time here, we enjoy it so much. The house is perfect – kids love it... Hopefully back again next year.
John, Nicola, Lucy and Ewan, Glasgow, July 2020

Suzanne and David Tucker, Beverley, July 2019
What is it about The Fuffins? We read about bad flooding at home; we hear gloomy BBC forecasts. But when we’re at The Fuffins we don’t care because we just love it. Thanks again Tom and Karen; warm welcome as always and your special ingredients for making it so special
Susan and Keith, Mary and Gordon, Leeds, February 2020
The heron welcomed us on the A1 when we arrived, and said goodbye near Meg’s Wood on Friday afternoon. This is our first winter visit and we were blessed with wonderful sunny weather. Great walking weather and we ‘summited’ Yeavering Bell. A week was great – 2 weeks will be better. Thank you, Karen and Tom, for providing such a special welcome, as always.

As planned, we brought Harry for the first few days of our second visit to The Fuffins and he loved it! A good first little holiday with the grandparents (and we had the rest of the week to recover!). An amazing week, particularly visiting the Farne Islands. Recommended!! Now we need to book for next year – Harry said 3 days were not enough…!
Janet, Brian and Harry, North Yorkshire, June 2019
The boys love it here. Fynn wants to come and live in Fuffins! We had a lovely holiday as usual. The donkeys are brilliant! Also we visited ‘the [archaeological] dig’ over in the field. So, as our entry for March 2015, we’re back via a week in Newt last year. Our 4th visit now and still looking forward to our arrival as much as the first time. The cottage, its comforts and lovely edible goodies are always wonderful. It’s so much like coming home despite the 280 miles trip. We saw some more places and interesting sites this time – particularly in the Scottish Borders area. Thank you again, Karen and Tom, just carry on doing what you’re doing – fantastic!
Graeme and Andrea Rolt, Warboys, October 2018
Thank you for your warm hospitality and brilliant attention to detail. We love what you are doing here… very best of luck with all your ventures. We have had a very special (though too short) time here at the Fuffins. Many, many thanks.
The Masons and the Elstobs, Ripon, September 2018
Well – what an exciting week… “the great storm” – amazing weather uprooting trees (and almost - us!)Blown around Duddo standing stones and Lindisfarne. Wow! Then… “the great power cut” – 24 hours of back to time past with not internet, TV. Just shows they make life easy but are non-essential every day!! We were very grateful for Tom and Karen’s flasks of boiling water for cups of tea though – and the fish and chip van’s perfect timing to arrive in Lowick. Fantastic cottage, lovely walks, amazing place and lovely people. Already booked to comeback 😊 x
Jane and Brain, N. Yorkshire, September 2018
Once again a wonderful stay – we met up with old friends and made some new ones (staying in Newt). We walked the farm trail – smiled at the donkeys, nosey peacocks and inquisitive piggies! We visited Alnwick Gardens and dined in the Treehouse whilst a harpist played (magic!!). We heard traditional Northumbrian folk music in Bamburgh – wonderful.
We’ve collected sea glass and sea pottery from local beaches, foraged sloes and blackberries, walked from Craster to Dunstanburgh and beyond – and walked to St Cuthbert’s Cave. Stayed for the day on Lindisfarne when the tide was in. Lots and lots of memories made. Thank you for this special place, Tom and Karen xxx
David, Janet and Joan, Cheshire, October 2018
We’ve been wracking our brains trying to think how The Fuffins could be improved but have come to the conclusion that it’s impossible. It is absolutely perfect and we have loved every minute! Thank you so much for letting the girls help out with the animals – They’ve had big smiles on their faces all week. Thank you, Tom and Karen, we’ll be back!
Sasha, Martin, Jess and Maddie, Malvern, August 2018

Stephen and Denise, Bolton, July 2017
Think this is our fifth visit and our joy at being here is still as great as our first visit. Once again we have found so many new places to visit. We found some superb cup markings at the top of Doddington Golf Club. A great week's weather and a great way to celebrate Suzanne's retirement. I gave her a choice of anywhere in the world to celebrate – Suzanne chose Hunting Hall, so that says it all!
David, Suzanne and Daisy, Beverley, July 2017
It was Sheep Rodeo Time on Thursday! They thundered through the farmyard, leaping an invisible gate, sleek from the shearing and hungry enough to stop for a quick nibble at the honeysuckle. Wool everywhere and peacocks shed feathers in sympathy. Many thanks to Tom for letting us watch the shearing and explaining the details of what we saw.

We also appreciated Mr Big the Goat and his 2 heavies. “How nice to see you, Mr Bond…” We love Hunting Hall.

P.S. The history tour was great; thank you so much for that, it sparked off quite a few ideas…

Susan and Keith, Mary and Gordon, Leeds, April 2016
Another fabulous stay despite the weather! We love this place and will definitely be back. Spent our time at Cheswick beach, Lindisfarne, Bamburgh and Alnwick this time. Discovered Barter Books in Alnwick which is great. Also got half my Harry Hare knitted 😊 Thanks to the Burns for another lovely stay – all the best and hopefully see you again soon xxx
Sally, Guy and Walter Williams, Buckinghamshire, March 2016

John, Vicky and Chris Collinson, South Yorkshire, February 2016
The cottage is absolutely perfect, comfy and warm. Farm animals roaming around and so much to see, you almost don't need to go anywhere.
Alice and Brad, Suffolk, October 2015
We have especially enjoyed the comfort of the cottage and all the homely touches. Thank you, Karen and Tom, for such a wonderful welcome.
Julian and Heather, Suffolk, October 2015
Yet another brilliant week! Not so good for stargazing so we'll have to come again - any excuse!!! Great to see lots of bunnies around again and the peacock chicks are so cute 😊 Will hopefully see you all again very soon. Don't want to go home :-(
Paula and Damian, Scunthorpe, September 2015
Back again this summer to enjoy a fantastic peaceful week at The Fuffins. Our mother, Joan Tucker, has lots of lovely trees planted in her memory – the crab apple trees around the edge of the lawn and trees below in the Dene. Wonderful to have these trees growing here. As always a wonderful welcome in the best cottage we have ever stayed in and an outstanding location (is there any wonder we keep returning?) How can a place just keep getting better? It's magic. We look forward to seeing Mum's trees growing and the birds finding new food and new nesting places. And we look forward to contributing to a new copse in the yard corner. P.S. Great hospital corners, Tom.
David, Suzanne and Daisy Tucker, Beverley, August 2015
A brilliant time here - thank you. All the extra touches like flowers and homemade cake greatly appreciated. We enjoyed our spinning lesson and Bethany loved helping with the pigs. All the information very helpful. Farm trail very enjoyable. We liked seeing all the nature – birds, butterflies, hare, deer… Thank you for making us so welcome 😊
Julie, Mark and Bethany, East Sussex, August 2015
We've had another lovely week here. We've never stayed in a better cottage. Lovely trips out and we all love the farm. Thank you.
Rob, Jane, Grace and Jack lusted, Skipton, July 2015
A wonderful first holiday with baby Alistair. Beautiful cottage, visits to the beaches, Cheviot hills and celebrating Annabelle's 4th birthday at Alnwick Gardens. Thank you for making us so welcome.
Tracy, Chris, Anabelle and Alistair Hodgson, Sheffield, July 2015
We've had an absolutely marvellous time. Thank you, Karen and Tom, for everything. A really beautiful place and spotlessly clean. Stunning views, so difficult to tear ourselves way from. We hope to return very soon.
Peter and Susan O'Sullivan, Wiltshire, July 2015
Our second holiday here and with the glorious weather, the best yet! We will be back 😊
Pam, Andy and Mathew, East Kilbride, July 2015
The weather has let us down this year, but we forgive it as it's the first time it has! As usual the girls were delighted with the little pigs. They loved saying hello to Whin and Bella and fussing over them both. The cottage has been wonderful as usual.
Brenda, Jim, Ellie and Laura, Osset, June 2015
Another wonderful week in this lovely cottage. Unique location, fantastic wildlife and warm hospitality from Karen and Tom.
Ian, Marlene and Gail Smeaton, Ayshire, June 2015

Alice, Colin, Aidan and Emily Forde, Birmingham, May 2015
Our sixth visit and The Fuffins is still the gold standard against which all other cottages are to be measured. We've had a wonderful week with all-season's weather. The peace and warmth of the Fuffins renews the spirit. Very many thanks to Tom and Karen xxx
Richard Beaven and Helen Taylor, York, May 2015
We have so enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing holiday in your lovely cottage, Karen and Tom. It has also been great for us all to spend so much time together. Special memories – thank you so much 😊 xx

Andrea and Graeme Rolt, Warboys, March 2015
A wonderful few days in this cosy, comfortable cottage. Some of the things we enjoyed: walking from Craster to Newton and lunch at the Ship Inn, Barter Books in Alnwick, Karen's delicious cake, watching the tide come in over the causeway. We hope to visit again. Thank you x
Sarah, Tony, Arthur and Louie, Nottingham, February 2015
Loved the cottage and the farm animals and the farm walk. Karen's a lovely bubbly host! Great clear dark skies for star gazing. Beaches at Cheswick and Bamburgh were great and Goswick golf course is a good test. Loved it all.
Joyce and William, Perth, February 2015
What more can we say that hasn't already been said? This place is so relaxing and warm - and fun watching the animals. All held in place by the wonderful welcome and cheerfulness of Karen and Tom. Pure magic, all of it!
Susan and Keith, Mary and Gordon, Leeds, January 2015
Peaceful, beautiful, relaxing week in a superb cottage in a wonderful location. Karen & Tom are perfect hosts and we would love to come to this place again.
Sue and Pete, Canterbury, November 2014
Another fabulous week. Stunning night skies (less cloud). Beautiful walks around the farm. Spotted dolphins off St Abbs. Beautiful place.
Damian and Paula, Scunthorpe, November 2014
Lovely blustery holiday. The boys loved playing in the fields and really enjoyed pond dipping.
Tony, Jane, Charlie and Jamie Nice, Melton, October 2014
Our first visit to Hunting Hall and what an idyllic week. Warm October sunshine, cycling through quiet lanes, ambling around the farm, talking pigs with Tom and lots of playing with wool... We didn't need to stray far to see some wonderful countryside - Karen's cycle route via Roughtinglinn is highly recommended. The walk leading to the waterfall is magical and worth seeking out. Thanks for creating a perfect retreat here - quiet, relaxing and with such a warm welcome. We hope we'll be back again before too long. X
Alison, Andy and Phoebe Hyde, Edinburgh, October 2014
What a wonderful and welcoming cottage, with everything imaginable provided. So comfortable in every way. The cottage is so comfortable and well set out. It was such a joy to come back to every day, and get cosy in front of the lovely log fire. What a treat form day 1. It will be a fabulous memory. What a great region of the country - Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Alnwick, even a trip to Edinburgh for the day (?9.50!!). We found a lovely new coffee shop in Berwick too - fairtrade and organic and lovely food - on the quayside at the Chandlery, Lowry's. Really nice. Thank you so much for the most wonderful holiday in the North and all the lovely touches that make this such a great place. Xx
Robert and Patti, Gloucestershire, October 2014
We've had a wonderful week with glorious weather. We love the warm welcome from Karen & Tom (& all the Northumbrians we've met!). Thanks a million!!
Gill, Jenny & Tony, Stroud and Oxford, September 2014
We had hoped to bring Mum up to share in the joy of Fuffins and Karen & Tom's wonderful Northumbrian hospitality, but she passed away 93 years young on the 16th August. Our visit to Hunting Hall to recharge our batteries and to laugh over 'grandma Joan' stories was just what we needed. Peace, nature and herons (Grandma's favourite bird). It is hard to put into words how time at the Fuffins has helped us all. Thank you. We hope to organise 'Joan's tree' in a short white. Until next summer xx
David, Suzanne, Bethany and David Tucker, Beverley, East Yorkshire, August 2014
Thank you so much, Tom and Karen, for creating this wonderful place! We've had another very special week and had some really great day out, but the highlight of each day is coming home to the farm and The Fuffins - it really is a little piece of heaven and we don't want to leave!
Sasha, Martin, Jess and Maddie, Malvern, Worcs., August 2014
We came to you for 1 weekend, then 1 week and it was 2 weeks... so next time? Such a special place made extra special by the cherishing evidenced everywhere - the animals, our welcome, the environment. Thank you Tom and Karen - a special place created by special people - we will be back!
Jane and Ian, Canada, July 2014

Another lovely holiday in our favourite cottage in our favourite county. Weather has been fantastic! Lovely to see you all. Ellie and Laura love the farm, especially this year as they had baby chickens to fuss over. See you next year xx
Brenda and Jim, Ellie and Laura, Osset, W. Yorks, June 2014
Another lovely holiday. We loved Fuffins even more than Newt! We hope to see you again. Thank you! Anne Hawley, Dent, Cumbria, June 2014
Another great visit. Been lovely to see you again and catch up. Tom and George said fishing in the burn was their favourite part of the holiday! Looking forward to our next visit already xxx
Tim, Ash, George and Tom Gale, Penrith, Cumbria, May 2014
This has been our fifth visit to Hunting hall and we are delighted to see the developing of the environmentally-friendly policies - the greening of the hedgerows, the increase of orchards and fruit trees and the very peaceful atmosphere. For us, this has been a very relaxing break from the 'quiet' life we lead in retirement. We particularly have enjoyed renewing contact with Tom and Karen, Margaret, Roberta and Alice, You have all been very friendly and hospitable.
Jeremy and Jan Howat, York, May 2014
A wonderful cottage! A relaxing, peaceful holiday - thank you.

It just gets better and better every time we come here. Thank you ever so much for your lovely welcome, yummy cake (enjoyed by all) and for all your thoughtful touches that make this such a special place to visit. We included the orchard this time on out (many) tours of the farm trail. Thank soft the tip about his extra leg. It will be lovely to see how the orchard progresses, much as we've seen Meg's Wood change over the years. This is such a wonderful place... thank you xx
Margaret, Jason and Kelsey Clarke, Balerno, Edinburgh, February 2014
How can an email be warm-hearted? Well it is when Karen and Tom send it. And then it is made even better with their lovely smiling welcome and that fire!! Despite the grey skies every day, we had a wonderful hike - knowing we could come back to a warm and very comfortable Fuffins. Thanks Karen & Tom, you have a great place & a marvellous approach to life.
Susan and Keith, Mary and Gordon. Leeds, February 2014
Had a splendid week with lovely weather. Loved the spotless cottage and our warm welcome - especially New Year celebrations in the Piggery with Tom and Karen's friends and relatives. Thank you, Karen and Tom, for your kindness.
Andrea, Krishna, Ameya and Morgan, hackney, London, January 2014
A wonderful week at Hunting Hall Farm. The cottage was cosy and comfortable and with all the animals, just perfect for a small boy... The weather has been great - picnics on the beach in November, you can't ask for more than that! Thanks ever so much for this lovely place to be.
Cath, Shane and Noah, Claire and Steve, Co. Durham and Leamington Spa, December 2013

Had a fabulous time in a beautiful cottage. Loved it – thanks!
Mark, Jenny, James and Ellis, Bolton, September 2013
We have thoroughly enjoyed our family holiday in The Fuffins and Newt Cottage to celebrate our Silver Anniversary. The cottages are delightful 😊😊, a real credit to the hard work of our friends Karen, Tom and family. It has been great to visit our favourite coastal places and Ingram Valley again. Thank you, Karen and Tom, for your kindness and our lovely college reunion day 😊 x
Chris, Louise, Tom and Emily, Lancashire, August 2013
After a slightly curtailed visit to Newt Cottage in 2007, we (Susie and Andy) have returned, along with Sarah, Laura and grandson Samuel – hence the need for the larger Fuffins! We have had a fantastic week in beautiful accommodation and managed to cram in a huge amount (Farne Island, Lindisfarne, Berwick, Alnwick Garden, Ford and Etal) and some delightful beaches. Many, many thanks for providing us with such a wonderful holiday. We shall be back!
Susie, Andy, Sarah, Laura and Samuel, July 2013
We have returned to Hunting Hall and The Fuffins after two years and we have had an absolutely fantastic holiday on the farm again. Everything was great – the cottage with its garden, the farm including the Newt trail, as well as this fabulous area of the North East. We couldn't have wished for more, but maybe the sun ;-) as always, time went too fast. Dear Karen & Tom, thank you very much for being wonderful hosts and for your patients with Hanna & Ruben!
Katrin, Thomas, Hanna and Ruben, Potsdam, Germany, June 2013
We decided to mark our 5th visit by getting married. We knew it would be a wonderful place for a honeymoon. Very many thanks to Karen, Tom and Margaret for the very special festive evening and to the local gods for fantastic weather. High “Ah..h...h” factor due to bunny washing face on lawn, little piglets, and big eared fox cub in dene.
Helen Taylor and Richard Beaven, York, June 2013
Once again it's been perfect! We have had a fantastic holiday. The grandchildren were in awe of the area, the farm and the cottage. They want to return next year - so see you next year!
Brenda and Jim Scott, Osset, June 2013
I always said that I would never stay anywhere twice - this is our third visit! It is impossible to fault anything, Karen and Tom, you have done wonders here. This is a very special place.

Yet another fantastic stay in The Fuffins! We have all enjoyed the walks around the farm and Bruce loves his pond dipping and bird watching trips!!! Thank you for all your hard work with the cottages and the orchard. We will be back... it is a perfect family break.

Stylish, modern, cosy and a fabulous setting, Fuffins proved perfect for our holiday. A great place for a family holiday!
Beate, Lydia, Robert and Scarlett, Brampton/Welwyn, May 2013
We're losing count now of how many time we've been here – we love the place, the farm, the cottage, the lovely welcome, the wildlife – I don't know how many times I've walked around the trail either – it's where I come to in my mind if I can't get to sleep at night! Thank you for letting us share this wonderful place with you xxx P.S. We were delighted to see the gray wagtail (in fact the pair). Also have seen our first wheatear of the year here, as well as the newly arrived swallows and sand martins – fabulous! 😊
Margaret, Jason and Tom Clarke, Edinburgh, April 2013-09-14
Friendly welcome as always (4th visit). Bamburgh, Seahouses, Embleton, Ford, Etal, Duddo standing stones, but best of all the Low Burn, the Burns, the animals and Hunting Hall Farm. Thanks for the hospitality. Hope to stay at the Fuffins again next year!

Excellent and immaculately kept accommodation. The girls particularly enjoyed their story-book twin bedroom. Pigs and surprisingly endearing.

Our first visit to The Fuffins and we couldn't have wishes for more! Thank you Karen and Tom, for your warm welcome and for letting the girls follow you around the farmyard – the highlight of their week! The cottage and garden here are wonderful and we really don't want to leave. We will certainly be back to explore more of this beautiful part of the country.

Jimmy, Shirley, Hannah, Holly and James, Dalgety May, July 2012
Our third visit to The Fuffins. Lovely home from home, and frequent early morning visits form the peacocks, peahen and baby rabbit! The weather was not the best sadly, but on the couple of dry days we got we visited Eyemouth and fed the seals (watch out for the cheeky seagulls!) and Spittal. See you soon!
Lorriane, Jim, Andrew and Matthew, Lanarkshire, July 2012
Cottage just as we had thought it would be. So welcoming, bread and cake fantastic. We wanted a relaxing week, what more could we have asked for. The hare having his breakfast on the grass every morning was the icing on the cake!! Many thanks for a wonderful time.
Melanie and Ian, Spalding, July 2012
Our 4th time, and The Fuffins and Hunting Hall never fail to enchant. Many thanks to Tom and Karen for their wonderful hospitality, and we have sussed your peacock surveillance scheme.
Richard Beaven and Helen Taylor, Haxby, York, June 2012
This year's visit was different as we brought our daughter Kate, her husband Gareth and our grandson Fynn. They stayed for a few days, and loved it as much as we do. Hope to bring our son and his wife and family next year, they will love it also!
Brenda and Jim Scott, Osett, June 2012
3rd visit to hunting Hall and it's been amazing. Fantastic hosts yet again. Made to feel part of the family. See you next year!! Best wishes xxxx 😊
Peter, Claire, Lauren and Emily-Kate Unsworth, Cartmel, June 2012
First visit but we shall definitely come again. Thank you so much Tom and Karen for a lovely relaxing holiday. A week is not enough. We've never been self catering before where groceries were provided! We can recommend a walk across the fields for Sunday lunch at the Black Bull, the 45 min walk back helps the digestion. The Red Lion at Millfield is good and excellent value. We got everything we needed from the shop in Lowick, which is very well stocked with friendly staff and we especially recommend the Border tart! Thanks also for the bread and cake, I needn't have brought ours and our cake is going home again untouched.
Robin and Anne Titley, Herefordshire, May 2012
We have had a fantastic holiday at The Fuffins. The cottage has become our home from home, with the boys enjoying the farm and gardens. Thank you for such warm and genuine hospitality throughout the week. We leave with many happy memories.
Rhiannon, James, William and Edward, Oxford, May 2012
So much chocolate cake, so little time... Whether it's swimming at Eyemouth, watching from the warmth of the cafe crashing waves, terrorising the little pigs recently born, playing at Harestanes, the outdoor play space at the Barn at Beal... so many distractions away from the chocolate cake in the fridge. Both my 4 year old daughter, Jessica, and I have loved our visit. Mum and Alex had to stay behind to look after our sick Father in law – still, more chocolate cake for us... xxx
Garry and Jessica Deane, Sale, March/April 2012
Our second visit to Hunting Hall, first time in the Fuffins. A wonderful warm welcome from Karen & Tom. Tiny pigs and lambing in progress added to the Northumberland experience & the weather was the icing on the cake; magnificent. So many palaces on the farm to sit and reflect, relax, or dream of the future. Thank you for a wonderfully peaceful and relaxing week and we cannot wait until next time.
Chris and Irena Chinn, High Kelling, March 2012
Very relaxing holiday. Second time here. We have enjoyed every minute. Thank you for making it so special.
Nicola, Paul, Benjamin and Euan, Hull, February 2012
A beautiful place to get 2012 off to a good start. Lovely cold, sunny days, finished off with cosy nights in by the fire. Thanks to Karen and Tom for the high standards and friendly welcome. Would love to try a different season here.
Emma and Andrew, Payton, January 2012
We were looking for an escape from all the pre Christmas chaos and luckily found Hunting Hall and The Fuffins. Steaming mugs of hot chocolate and Karen's scrumptious chocolate gingerbread by a roaring fire – bliss! The Fuffins truly is an idyll; A great place to relax and unwind – just what the doctor ordered!
Tracy, Tabby and Ollie, Fife, December 2011
