Extra Activities

To make your holiday special we offer several extra activities. If you are interested in any of these activities, please contact Tom or Karen for more information.

Helping Wildlife on the Farm
A Guided Walk at Hunting Hall

Enjoy an easy guided walk of approximately 2 miles around the farm with Karen to learn more about how we look after our countryside. The walk will be suitable for all ages and will last 1½ to 2 hours (depending on the walkers).

Karen and Tom have worked with environmental youth groups, school children and community groups to help wildlife on the farm. With a government grant scheme, the farm business and farm tenant are able to work together to grow crops and livestock and create a haven for wildlife.

Cost: £25 for up to 4 people. Please arrange a suitable time for your walk with Karen.

An Introduction to Spinning
Ever wanted to learn to spin?

Karen has two spinning wheels and is happy to introduce you to the craft of spinning a yarn from the fleece of Hunting Hall organic sheep.

Karen loves working with wool and has made several rugs from chunky rug wool she has spun and dyed with natural plants. She has also spun finer yarns for knitting and woven wall hangings.

The 2 hour session will take place in Hunting Hall’s lovely Piggery Farm Resource Centre.

Cost: £30 for up to two people. Please contact Karen for more details.

If you enjoy working with wool and would like to purchase some of the farm’s organic knitting yarn or a knitting kit to take home as a holiday present, please ask Karen for further details. To see the full range of Hunting Hall’s wool products visit the farm’s wool website:

A Visit to Lowick Community Bee Hive

Join Tom for a visit to the three hives at Hunting Hall to learn a little about the lives of bees and how we look after them. We have two spare bee suits (therefore only two guests can visit the hives at a time) which will fit most sizes and children are welcome. This activity is only available from spring to late summer in fine weather.

Lowick Community Bee Hive project is sponsored by Northumberland Coast AONB. There is not a charge for this session. Please contact Tom to arrange a visit to the apiary.

Star Gazing at Hunting Hall

We have some fabulous night skies at Hunting Hall – on a clear night you can clearly see the Milky Way from the cottage gardens. Star gazing in the stillness of an evening is a magical experience! In March, the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and NASTRO, the Northumberland Astronomical Society, hold a Dark Sky event at Hunting Hall, offering members of the public the opportunity to come and share our magnificent skies.

If you would like to try star gazing we have a small telescope which we lend out on request, and star guides, flasks and torches.

Don’t forget to bring warm clothing because it can be very cold sitting still in the dark for any length of time.

Two Car-free Days
and a free bottle of wine!

Be green and leave your car behind whilst you explore Northumberland. We’re offering a free bottle of wine to anyone who has two car free-days during their holiday at Hunting Hall. To take part, just drop your car keys off at the farmhouse before you start.

Why not explore Northumberland by bicycle? Roberta has had a super time discovering some wonderful cycle routes on her new bike. She particularly loves the coastal cycle trail travelling north towards Berwick. The route is a little rough in places but the fabulous views across the sea are well worth the effort!
